Keynote Title: Water and Food Security in the Context of Climate Change: What Can Universities Do?
Climate change continues to disrupt ecosystems and weather patterns, making water availability and food security increasingly vulnerable on a global scale. It examines the interconnectedness of these challenges, showing how climate change exacerbates both water scarcity and food insecurity. In response, universities have a pivotal role to play. Through research, education, and community partnerships, they can contribute to innovative solutions, promote sustainable practices, and influence policy to mitigate the impacts of climate change on water and food resources. By engaging students, researchers, and local stakeholders, universities can help pave the way toward a more resilient and secure future for both water and food systems.
Professor Walter Leal main research interests are in the fields of sustainable development and climate change, also including aspects of climate change and health. Prof. Walter has the titles of Philosophy Doctor (PhD), Doctor of Science (Sustainability), Doctor of Science (Science and Engineering), Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil), and Doctor of Technology (DTech).
